Blue Star Memorial Marker

Help us honor our veterans throughout the year by establishing the first "Blue Star Memorial Marker" in Kenosha County.

What is a Blue Star Memorial Marker?

The Blue Star Program honors all men and women who serve in the United States Armed Services. It began in 1944 in New Jersey as a memorial to veterans of World War II. In 1945, the national Council of State Garden Clubs (now NGC, Inc. ) adopted this program and  began a Blue Star Program throughout the country. The Blue Star was adopted because it had become an icon in World War II and was seen on flags and banners in homes for sons and daughters away at war as well as in churches, businesses and other public spaces.

All Blue Star Markers are funded by donations of local garden clubs. The members often tend gardens around the markers.

What will the Four Season Garden Club do in Kenosha?

In Wisconsin, Blue Star Markers are seen across the state from Superior to Milwaukee and Beloit and many places in between but, there are NONE in Kenosha County. Our garden club plans to work with the Kemper Center and Kenosha County Parks to establish a Blue Star Memorial Marker on the grounds of Kemper Center. Our planned bronze marker will be mounted on a stone similar to the examples seen below.
